First International Conference on
Popular Culture and Education in Asia
11-13 December 2008
 

From 11-13 December 2008, The Hong Kong Institute of Education was privileged to host the First International Conference on Popular Culture and Education in Asia. The conference brought together more than 100 researchers from disciplines including cultural studies, media education, new literacies, and language education. In addition to plenary presentations from David Buckingham, Jane Kenway, Shelley Hong Xu, Koichi Iwabuchi, Eric Ma, and Cameron McCarthy, the conference featured three full days of papers by presenters from Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America and Africa. On Saturday 13 December, more than 80 local schoolteachers joined the conference for a day of workshops on popular culture in the classroom.
