Chak-On Chow

I am an assistant professor at the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology, Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd). Before the current appointment, I had held Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Department of Mathematics, Hong Kong Baptist University and the Institute of Mathematics, Academia Sinica, Taipei.

I received my Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, in June, 2001. (See a picture of MIT commencement.) I wrote my doctoral thesis under the direction of Professor Ira Gessel of the Department of Mathematics, Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts. [See a picture of Ira and me taken during FPSAC’01, held at the Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ (Photo courtesy of Mark Skandera), and a picture of David Vogan (Head of MIT Math Dept) and me taken during the commencement in 2001.]

Before admitted to MIT, I studied at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) from which I earned my B.Sc. in Mathematics. [See a picture of mine taken during which time I was pending my Bachelor degree to be conferred by The Right Honourable (the Lord) Christopher Patten (of Barnes, now the Chancellor of the University of Oxford, UK) on November 4, 1994.]

My research interests include combinatorics and numerical analysis.
